Alpes 2030 – Winter

In 2030, the Winter Olympics and Paralympics return to France.
The last time France hosted the Winter Games was in 1992. Albertville hosted the Olympics, and Tignes-Albertville hosted the Paralympics.
In 2030, the French Alps will once again host many of the snow events. Lyon will host several of the ice events, and Thialf, Netherlands will stage speed skating.

Why is speed skating in the Netherlands?
Seemingly, every Olympics seems to have its own Tahiti, right?
France doesn’t have a standard 400m speed skating oval that’s suitable for Olympic competition. Rather than build an entirely new venue, or even build a temporary rink link Milano Cortina 2026 did, Alpes 2030 decided to find a location in another country. They chose the hotbed of speed skating: The Netherlands.
Speed skating will be in Heerenveen, at Thialf Stadium. According to Google Maps, it’s located about 1000km away from Lyon, and would be a 10-hour (or so) drive, or 8+ hours by train.
This will be the first time a Winter Olympics has been held in two countries.
How can I get tickets to Alpes 2030?
Are you excited about seeing Alpes 2030 events in person? Tickets will go on sale at the end of 2028.
As of July 2026, no details on the process have been announced, but based on the last few Olympics and Paralympics, we can likely expect:
- Digital tickets

- Some sort of resale platform
We’ll update this page as we get more information!
How can I volunteer for Alpes 2030?

As of July 2026, the volunteer application process has not yet started, but we’ll update this page as information becomes available!
